I was there when it was first introduced. I saw the results that was so very clear that the students wanted a Mr. SC State. Don't you think the students evaluated the situation just as much as the senate did? I think the senate is a dishonorable group of people who went against the PEOPLE of SC State. Too bad students do not know about these group of people who decide the laws and governance of this campus. To the lone person who voted in favor of a Mr. SC State, I applaud you. As a female, I have to say that I see a lot of men who are worthy of the title of Mr. SC State. Let's be real...every queen needs a king and it would only be fitting for SC State to have a queen. My mother went to school here and they fought long and hard for a Mr. SC State. This was 20 years ago!!! History repeats itself because my brother went here 4 years ago and the idea was brought up again...DOES THIS NOT RING A BELL?! The student senate of SC State University need to look at consolidating organizations that do the same thing and focus their time and effort on creating a space where the men can step up and be a real man to the Women in which he serves!

You have to look at the situation from an economic standpoint though; the school is in financial trouble. We have already had furloughs and the Board is meeting to plan yet another budget cut in a few days. This school is not like other universities. We are a land-grand institution with debt, where other universities are privately funded and have millions in savings. We can't even pay for the things we have now, and introducing a Mr. SC State would just be another unnecessary cost right now. When the economic situation is better it will be a good time to bring this back up, but right now there is no money to waste on something that does not affect the university in any meaningful way. It would be nice to have a Mr. SC State but not if it means a cut in teacher salaries / student scholarships / programs.
